About us

OUR FORMATION STORY

DARPAN is a community where marginal and excluded populations like MSM and TG/Hijra share an interest and passion for all-around social development through human rights and social justice lenses. The foundation is a community-based organization formed in the year 2000 in the city of Secunderabad/Hyderabad and registered under the Societies Registration Act 2001 (Registration No. 506/2004).

DARPAN emerges from the action points—Development of Advocacy, Resources, Planning, Awareness, and Networking. The prime objective of the foundation is to strengthen legal, social, and economic conditions by developing, strengthening, and promoting sexual health, human rights, and care and support programmes for MSM and TGs/Hijra communities in and around the districts of Hyderabad.

DARPAN TODAY

DARPAN began its journey as a CBO with MSM and Transgender/Hijra community. The foundation has today expanded its horizon and is engaged with Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and others (LGBTQI+). The organization is primarily focusing on HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention-related interventions in Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Medak-Medchal, and Sangareddy districts of Telangana. Being a community-led organization, We enable communities facing inequalities to assert their rights and prepare them to participate in concrete actions to bring about changes in health services and equitable distribution of resources for the LGBTQI+ community.

Our reach and community participation has expanded, and we are now a member of INFOSEM Network, a national-level network of community-based organizations working for MSM and TG populations, and NNTP, a national-level network exclusively for Transgender persons.
